Many employees are finding it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life due to several increasing stressors and pressures both in and outside of work. A recent Forbes study revealed that the 2025 job burn out rate is now at 66%! With employees spending much of their waking time at work, it’s critical that employers offer meaningful support to their employees to help them thrive.
Encourage your employees to take their PTO. Did you know that almost half of Americans don’t take all of their paid time off?! This can be due to a wide range of factors such as employees being overwhelmed with their workload or your workplace culture may unknowingly shun those who take vacation.
Also, take the time to review your PTO policy. Has it been updated recently or have you had the same policy in place for the last 15 years? Ensuring that you have a competitive PTO policy can help both with employee’s well-being and retention.
Flexible work schedules can be incredibly helpful for work-life balance of your staff. A flexible work schedule can look like a compressed work week, hybrid options, remote work etc. You can be creative with your offerings and test out what would best fit your organization and culture.
One third of Americans state that work is negatively impacting their mental health with 80% stating that they feel stress at work. With these staggering numbers it its clear that employees really need support for their mental well-being.
If your workplace offers insurance, be sure to check if mental health services are adequately covered. Very regularly, employers offer an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which is a voluntary program that offers free and confidential services for your employees such as counseling, financial and legal advice etc. Other creative ways to offer mental health support could be stress management workshops or offering reimbursements for subscriptions to digital well-being apps.
Many employers offer reimbursements for wellness programs like gym memberships. Other options could be to offer standing desks (or other ergonomic options) or even encouraging your employees to schedule walking meetings. Wellness perks don’t always have to be expensive. There can be other creative ways to offer these benefits such as healthy snacks for the office.
Social well-being may be often overlooked in organizations, but it is a critical component to building and maintaining a solid team. When people feel that they belong in their organization and are supported by their co-workers it can have a positive impact on both the individual and the organization.
A few ways that you can enhance social well-being is by offering opportunities for your employees to connect with one another. This can be through company social events, team building activities, etc. One suggestion would be to schedule these get togethers during the workday. Many employees are already feeling the pressure of trying to balance work and personal life pressures.
Of course, each employer is unique and every workforce has different wants and needs. Engage with your employees to understand what benefits they value the most. By demonstrating creativity and flexibility in offering additional benefits will improve your employee well-being and your workplace culture.
